On 19 May 2022, the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) issued a press release stating, among several other aspects, that the Industrial Chemicals Registration Law (ICRL) would not be implemented as scheduled on 03 January 2023. The expected approval for the ICRL was to be at the end of 2021. No reason(s) for the delay were given.
In announcing the postponement of the implementation of the ICRL, Reut Rabi, the Director of the Asbestos Division and Chemical Registry at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, specifically commented on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) noting “PFAS compounds are one example of chemicals that have been discovered to be limited to their use, with the aim of reducing their effects on the human and the environment.”
Rabi’s statement was followed separately by comments that the MEP “will soon promote the Industrial Chemicals Regulation Law”. Rabi used her comments relating to PFAS to promote the need for the ICRL, largely to illustrate that there are chemicals whose use needs to “be studied and reduced”.
m4 Global Consulting LLC continues to maintain close ties to both Ms. Rabi and the MEP. We have enquired about the reason for the ICRL delay, but we have not received a response at the time of publication. We will follow up with an addendum to this post once we receive one.
